Hi, I'm Mark Serbu, lifelong gun nut, degreed mechanical engineer, gun designer, founder and owner and president of Serbu Firearms, Inc. I'm also a pretty decent self-taught TIG welder, machinist, CNC programmer and assembly guy. I'm trying to teach the basic principles of firearm design and engineering (which apply to ALL product design and engineering), including mechanisms, materials, heat treat, stresses, math, etc. Thanks for stopping by!
Gun design musings from across the pond
Uploaded from a cruise ship somewhere on the Aegean Sea between Turkey and Greece, the magic of Elon Musk's Starlink made this possible! It's with a bit of dread that I'm noticing UA-cam quietly demonetizing some of my videos; even my latest rifling video, which barely has a gun in it! It really sucks what they're doing to gun channels (again), and I'm sure it's only going to get worse. For now I'm hoping they still allow CAD models of guns to be shown! Assuming this video is allowed, I hope you get some good information from it!

Grease Gun Resurrection Part 1
Переглядів 46 тис.14 днів тому
Demonetized before it even went live. Oh, well...Enjoy. On me! Folks, I've been wanting an M3 (Grease gun) for years, and finally the parts sets have become available! Well, the were available for a day or so and then completely sold out. Anyway, in this video I show you how I go about welding a torched-to-hell receiver back together...enjoy!
RN-50 Barrel Test Gun!
Переглядів 21 тис.Місяць тому
A look at the RN-50 Barrel Test Gun. This was made from a chopped-down RN-50, and was basically the quickest way to get shop-made pistol barrels tested. Also in this video is a bit of product-whoring for the new Olight Osight. This is a really awesome piece of kit (as the Brits say), and the price is insanely cheap! Check it out at: olight.com/osight Last, if you need IT services, check out my ...
Rifling 5!
Переглядів 20 тис.Місяць тому
The long-awaited rifling video! I will be doing more rifling videos in the future, including ECM rifling. But for now this is what you get! Actually, my next rifling video will be a short, where I show you everything you need to know in less than 60 seconds. Hell, maybe even 30 seconds. Cheap, Chinese rifling buttons, grease, and bashing the button through the tube with a hammer. It will be ugl...
TEC Pistol!
Переглядів 406 тис.2 місяці тому
Ok, we still don't know exactly what to call this thing. It's a modern take on the classic TEC-9, and the awesome thing is that it's caliber switchable between 9mm and 30 Super Carry! Former Kel-Tec head engineer, Toby Obermeit, pays me a visit and brings along his new baby. It's a standard blowback firearm, but it's made using technologies that didn't exist when its 1980s ghetto-blaster namesa...
Beretta 418 Pistol
Переглядів 26 тис.2 місяці тому
This is a really cool little .25 ACP pocket pistol made by Beretta from the 1920s to the mid-1950s. It's got classic styling and was made with old-school methods. I got this one for a deal, fixed it up and fired some rounds. Check it out!
Stamping Again....Again!

After 2 long years I finally do the final stamping on the Diabolus upper receiver! The results were not perfect, but they're very close...I'm pretty psyched!
30 Super Carry!
Переглядів 42 тис.3 місяці тому
Around a year ago, I'd been looking for something like a .32 ACP magnum but somehow completely missed the fact that the 30 Super Carry had been brought out an entire year before! Here I discuss a few of my thoughts on what I hope will turn out to be the ultimate carry round.
.50 BMG vs Termite Mound-Extended Version!!
Переглядів 16 тис.3 місяці тому
When in South Africa, kill termites! I'll admit it...this video was all about indulging my inner, destructive kid. Like a commenter said on my other gun channel, "The kid with the magnifying glass and the ant hill has grown up!" Funny analogy and completely true. I DID spend time burning ants with a magnifying glass as a kid. Anyway, I was surprised how little damage was done to the mound with ...
3D Printing: Ender vs Bambu...sort of.

The RN-45!
Переглядів 151 тис.4 місяці тому
In case you can't guess by the "RN" in the name, this is yet another Royal Nonesuch creation. I make fun of him a lot in this video, as usual, but this is actually a pretty decent gun. And one really interesting thing is that I saw something on high-speed video that I've never noticed before! That alone will make watching this video worthwhile for my fellow gun-building nerds. Enjoy! If you wan...

M12AR Shotgun!
Переглядів 55 тис.5 місяців тому
I'm amazed at how this gun is so incredibly cheap! I wish I could talk about how few "doll hairs" you have to exchange for this thing, but then I'd get demonetized, get a channel strike, etc. With a little research you can find out about this bargain sporting/home defense/plinking shotgun!
M240 Action

Guys, I uploaded a version of this video here around 8 years ago. Now I've slightly re-edited it and I'm hoping you can help get my views up on my other gun channel by watching some videos over there. Here's a link to this one: ua-cam.com/video/qIq21yUMqAs/v-deo.html Thanks!
Saturday Night Beer Video
Переглядів 3,3 тис.5 місяців тому
It's a little about beer, a little about 3D printing and a little about something else unmentionable. But at a minute and 37 seconds, at least you won't be wasting much time watching this! Hope your week went well and you're having a great weekend!
Keep trucking till they turn the lights off. Dig the off the shelf component consideration. You were one of the main guys who got me into scratch building and motivated enough to start uploading too.
And yo mark u gotta come on "unsubscribe podcast"buddy im sure scott will come up lmao 😂 we all know it was the slap that got him sooooo.....uncomfortable pause n yup 😅. Thèy would love u. N get adwin on foo😂and daspari
Hey Mark. Mr serbu my name is Bradley, anyway I'm an amateur gun guy here in the good old state of NY unfortunately. Looking to find one of u guys in the industry to learn from
Did the gb22 kit ever come out id buy one
Good idea to use the copper as a shim and backing strip. I'll have to remember that one .
Thank you for sharing!! I downloaded a browser extension that redirects me to duplicates of videos or their equivalences that are on youtube so I can watch it there instead. Also odysee is a lot more lax and lately has really made their website more usable like youtube. Your gun vids there with greater freedom of expression would be tremendous there. Loved the vid! I have been to kuş adası many times.
#markserbu If this were to be a new world-order resistance tool, a great design feature would be a modern simplified version of the Tokarev trigger group due to its modular design. what do you think Mark
@markserbu #markserbu have you thought of downloading some of the South African Musgrave pistol CAD models to see if can find a happy medium between both designs
Ur in a turkey bro thats fucked everyone knows you wanna get in a goat if your trying to get in any animals goat pussy is best animal pussy on the planet
I'm currently doing a semi-auto Sten build but I'm struggling like fuck with the remainder of the tube.. The ring that houses the receiver in the back, I can't get the remainder of the receiver out of there.. any tips?
There’s a pin coming in from around the rear sight block area that holds in the demilled bit. It’s though to spot and might be responsible for your troubles
@@Henrydbunny I'll take a look tomorrow, thanks man. I probably should've spent a little more and got a nicer kit lol
Free models are free for a reason, no precision. Made with photo references instead of schematics from manufacturers.
I'm an engineer and a VFR rated pilot. Engineers tend to be better at flying the instruments. As an electrical engineer, I have a lot of experience with instruments that help me perceive things I can't see - electrical current, resistance, frequency, waveforms, digital pulses, etc. With any electronic control system, it's important to tell it what to do then repeatedly verify that it's doing what you *think* you told it to do. That's much more true when flying IFR. The consequences are a lot worse than microwaving a baked potato for 55:55 instead of 5:55. The typical expectation bias in this case wouldn't be programming a descent and never checking it. It would be checking that the programmed descent has initiated and assuming that it's the descent you wanted, rather than checking that the descent terminated at 1600 feet. It's a good idea to routinely scan GPS position, heading, altitude and wings relatively level to ensure the plane is where you need it to be, but that's easier said than done with tuning a radio for ATIS at the destination, talking to approach, copying clearances, distractions from passengers, etc. Things happen quickly in a high performance plane. I quickly learned to tell passengers that we're about to land and I need to focus, so please don't talk until we're on the ground, unless you see a fire or parts falling off... and I wasn't flying a Boeing so that's unlikely. I doubt the controller was that worried. He did his job by monitoring your flight and repeatedly attempting to warn you. He's off the hook if you make a smoking crater. He also had a good idea of the ceiling and figured that you'd break out into VFR conditions and fix the problem, assuming you weren't incapacitated, in which case there isn't anything he can do anyway. You didn't seem to be in a 1 g descending turn in the clouds. You just seemed to be descending a bit too low. It was fortunate you were over flat terrain, but you never know where you might find a tall tower in low clouds. If the pilot makes a mistake, the pilot dies. If the controller makes a mistake, the pilot dies. I'm glad it worked out for you and will be a motivation to improve.
Very cool. 3D CAD FTW! I really need to get off my duff, convert an old 3D printer into an ECM for rifling barrels, and design a maximally 3D printed gun. Or start with a Glock barrel and design my own max 3D printed gun... for fun.
If it’s so bad I can’t buy a p80 kit because it’s been outlawed, I may as well look up the sten. lol
Finally, someone is designing a slide thicker than a Hi-Point. 🤣Very unique! If you're already thinking about a name for the final design, I'll throw the name "the birthday cake" out there because it looks like a an icing gun for cakes.
Why not make rails the whole length ? I have to say I now carry a gx4carry like A g48 size and the rails are super long all one and its the smoothest shooting gun I have in that size more then my 365 more then the g48 and more then the hellcat
Just found this on Reddit earlier this evening on my phone on the sub Reddit of this video man.
RUMBLE
Being your own best critic to make design changes 👌
Front end piece can be additional slide points
Have you thought about making a video with tips and tricks on designing in solidworks? I started using the program some time ago and it's brilliant but I still can't deal with the trigger group for example, specifically simulating the action. I would be extremely grateful. I love the channel I love your work, sending greetings from Poland:)
Looks like A HOT GLUE GUN
Whether you know it or not you are redesigning the Musgrave 9mm pistol.
Great insight into the mind of a genuine artist! Love it Mark. 👌
kinda reminds me of the linda carbine it'd be awesome if you can use some mechanical advantages to lower the weight of the slide and recoil spring strength
If we all would follow on an alternate gun friendly venue, UA-cam would get the Bud Light Treatment they have earned. UA-cam is suppressing free speech and media. And I understand the frustration for creators because the audience won't follow them to another video provider, because UA-cam is familiar.
a very nice modern take to the J.P. Sauer & Son Second Series Model 1913 Pistol
UA-cam is a POS platform
Looks nice. It looks like something someone that has a small home shop could easily build. I wish i had more time to work with CAD. I tend to build then fit things together. When i do cad something i always try to figure out how i would machine it theb design it around my capabilities.
5:39. swing link it with a roller chain. kinda like an 1911
Nice work.
Mark I got a headache watching u move that gun around. Thank you 😊
I love Turkey… ❤
@markserbu what I would like to see, is someone design a universal, forward charging conversion system, for an AR-15! I know it isn't much but it is something I think would be cool.
Cool
Drop in barrel and orient it with the feed ramp. Does solidworks have a free or cheap version
You have to make that in 30 cal
Tec-17! Reminds me of the pistols from the first total recall movie. I like it!
Those were Claridge Hi-Tec pistols, in case you were interested in getting one.
Are any of your "pews" CA legal?
Are you still playing around with necked up 5.7? Really interested to where that goes.
Yes they did use them into the 80's. I was station in Meunchweiler, Germany 83 -85 and during Reforger 84, we had a tank unit at our base. I saw a driver climbing out of his M60 tank carrying a grease gun.
Love you videos like this Mark - hearing your musings on the process, making stuff fit, how stuff will go together, how to avoid designing something that can't be made / unmade - thanks!
THINK THE WORD YOU WERE LOOKING FOR , MAY BE 'DEFORMED' MARK !!!!! 🎉❤
cool
At 11:16, perhaps have the chamber and trunnion as one piece and the barrel screws into it? That way, you could notch the chamber for an extractor and the barrel wouldn't need to be "keyed" to a particular rotational position.
Random thought (probably will not work out). How about using a break or suppressor attached to the slide to help in slowing the slide down as its a direct blowback? Precision though would be very important, and when you keep that in mind then using a gas delayed system is maybe just as easy. Just a thought, 0 calculations done, not gone over it thinking logicallly, thought of start of this video
why don't you alter the design the sheet metal component so it can be chassis that could be interchanged throughout a number of firearms that can have different grips barrels calibers etc and registered? kind of like the sig or defcad options? feels like what you have is simple and cool but could be moreso
What i don't like about UA-cam is they pick on only some gun channels. Like you, Now Matt from Demo he can get by with so much never have no trouble with UA-cam. It is B/S if you ask me.
Pretty cool Mark! Don’t forget the optic cut!😂
Meh, just braze of scope rings and call it good.
I think all the guntubers should get together and file a lawsuit against youtube.
